Processing Techniques

Our advanced processing methods ensure the preservation of nutritional integrity and functional properties:

  • Cleaning & Dehulling: Utilizing air separation, gravity sorting, and magnetic separation to remove impurities. Dehulling is achieved through mechanical or ultrasonic methods, yielding flaxseed kernels and hulls.

  • Degumming & Gum Extraction: Flaxseed gum is extracted via hot water immersion (90°C) with stirring, followed by filtration, concentration, precipitation, spray drying, and sieving.

  • Microwave Pretreatment: Enhances oil yield and flavor by heating flaxseeds to approximately 120°C, improving oxidative stability and reducing cyanogenic glycosides.

  • Prensado en frío: Oil extraction at temperatures below 45°C preserves essential fatty acids and bioactive compounds.

  • Protein & Fiber Separation: Post-oil extraction, the flaxseed cake is milled and sieved to separate protein-rich powder and fiber-rich hulls.

  • Gel Formation: Hydrating flaxseed gum or whole flaxseed in water forms a viscous gel, suitable for various applications.
